Older Lots Between the Ridges
Excavation contractors in Fountain City work in a North Knoxville community hemmed in by ridges. Black Oak Ridge and Beaver Ridge rise to the north and Sharp's Ridge separates it from North Knoxville to the south. It grew from a 19th-century campground into a resort and streetcar suburb: the Fountain Head Hotel opened in 1886, the post office and the name Fountain City came in 1890, and Knoxville annexed the community on February 12, 1962.
Springs and creeks
First Creek rises near the base of Black Oak Ridge and flows south through Fountain City toward downtown. The big spring that fed the old campground still feeds First Creek from Fountain City Park, and Adair Creek joins it near Lynnhurst Cemetery. Spring water and high groundwater are part of why many basements and crawlspaces here are damp.
The Duck Pond
Fountain City Lake, the heart-shaped Duck Pond, was finished in 1890, the same year the Dummy Line railroad connected the community to Knoxville. A trolley replaced it in 1905. Homes from the trolley era and the decades after make up much of the housing.
Older homes, older lines
With homes going back over a century, we see clay sewer laterals, settled grading, stone foundations and tight driveways. Lateral trenches, curtain drains and regrades are the most common work, along with footings for additions.
Spring-fed ground
Because springs still feed First Creek, groundwater sits high in parts of the community. Footing and lateral trenches can take on water, and we bring pumps when needed.

Do you work near First Creek?
Yes, after checking floodplain limits.
Can a machine fit in my narrow driveway?
